In the beautiful words of Lionel Richie we are ‘Once, twice, three times a ladies undefeated team…’
It’s been a strong start to our 2023/24 season with a new captain, Ruth Trolove, at the helm. The 16th and 23rd September saw the Ladies 1st team bring home 2 wins followed by a tough 0-0 draw on the 30th September against Leicester Westleigh 1s.
The opposition brought their A-game and were no doubt feeling confident after their strong win the week before. They demonstrated moments of speed and agility amongst their midfielders and forwards especially. However a strong Oundle team were able to meet their challenge, and win the majority of ball possession with some excellent tackles from Kat Hughes and Helen Smith.
The first half of the game saw play mainly in Oundle’s attacking half of the pitch. Several short corners were awarded to Oundle but unfortunately they did not go our way this time. There were further attempts on goal throughout the game but the opposition flooded their defence making a clear shot on goal impossible. Leicester Westleigh came out fighting harder in the second half and managed a few attempts on goal but Karen Darrington (GK) put a swift end to any idea of the opposition scoring. A special mention to Issy Gorely and Charli Elphinstone this week who both had a superb game with their ability to support attacking play and also power back to assist the defenders but it was Charli who very deservedly took player of the match. Next week we travel to play Towcester 3 away.
